DHA Formula Guide

DHA tanning formula guide
what is dha
GlowPro produces professional strength tanning formulas which means our formulas are named the same way as professional spray tans are- by DHA concentration. DHA, short for Dihydroxyacetone, is a simple carbohydrate with formula C 3H 6O 3 and is the active ingredient almost all sunless tanning products. It reacts with amino acids in the surface cells of the skin, producing a darkening effect. DHA does not damage skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis (stratum corneum).
how does DHA work

Once applied, it will give an immediate tanned look produced by the instant bronzer in the mousse. The tan will develop over the next 8-24 hours and the instant bronzer will wash off when you shower. The developed tan can last up to 7 days depending on the skin type, DHA concentration, preparation to the skin prior to tanning, and after care. The tan gradually fades as the dead skin cells slough off, just as in a normal tan.

what dha is best for my tan

Lower concentrations of DHA are best for light skin tones, and higher numbers on dark skin tones. Our strongest formula, 14% DHA, is the maximum amount of DHA the skin can absorb at one time and gives you the darkest tan possible for your skin tone! Our 14% DHA concentration is recommended for experienced tanners looking to achieve their darkest bronze. The most widely used formulas in the US are in the medium range of 8-10%, which will suit almost all skin tones. The chart below will help you determine which solution is the best fit for you.

The best way to prevent an orange cast is to use the recommended DHA percentage for your skin type. If you're unsure which level to use, go lighter. It is easier to apply more product and darken a tan than it is to remove an over dark or orange tan.
